Getting ready

City of Craft is in two days and i am busy busy busy getting ready for the show!

The brilliant Becky Johnson is the ringleader of this great show and has been an inspiration to me for many years.  She curates a diverse mix of vendors together with a lot of crafty surprises.  Come and say hello to me at the show, we will be there from 11 to 6! I will have a lot of paper packs, magnets, buttons, limited edition prints and original art works.  Very very excited indeed!

I came across this image in a 1955 Woman’s Day Journal Magazine and was struck at how relevant it was to today’s women.  It seems that although we have been under the impression that time management was only a modern day woman’s problem, that it was also one of the past as well.  We have all of these computers, and gadgets that are supposed to make us better at managing our day to day and yet, do we?

City of Craft

rare specimens is going to be at the City of Craft Spring Show on April 21st. I’m equal parts excited and terrified about this. Do I have enough stock?  Will my table look cute enough?  Should I get business cards made? Oh man, so much pressure. The show is shaping up to be pretty amazing, with an awesome group of makers.  If you’re in town or close by, you should come check it out.

I am so excited to be a part of the City of Craft Spring Show.  It’s happening at Trinity St Paul Church and i really can’t wait to show some of my new work which is primarily on paper.

I hope to see all of my lovelies there and can’t wait to be back in the city with a community that i love!

3 tattooed ladies, originally uploaded by Mimi K.

You know when someone is so brilliant at what they do that they sometimes inspire you to make you think that you might do something you never imagined you would.

I swear, I want a tattoo after seeing these ladies. Not really, but sort of. You know. They make me think that if i got a tattoo that i just might be as wonderfully cool as these ladies! Alas, i am scared silly of needles so no tattoos for me!

Inspiration Monday: The Artist Project 2012

Since moving to Hamilton I have seen more visual art than i have I ever have.  It seems that the galleries are more accessible and both the Art Crawl and The Pearl Company’s Art Bus really contribute to me feeling that way.  Oddly, i haven’t been taking a lot of photos on those trips, maybe because i didn’t want to feel like such a tourist.  However, a visit back to Toronto had me snapping photos of some of the artists who interested me most at The Artist Project.  Here are a handful of what i enjoyed the most!

Keita Morimoto’s portraits were both whimisical yet haunting.  I loved the use of bright colours and the exageration of the eyes making them look a bit more vulnerable than most.  I look forward to seeing more of this artist’s work in the future.

Casey Roberts creates paintings with a photochemical process known as cyanotype.  Combining cynotype with collage elements and watercolour create a very unique effect that i haven’t seen anywhere before.  So lovely, and when i spoke to Casey he seemed like one of the kindest people ever and that always wins points with me.

Check out his work at
